Research News
Three large collaborative studies include a catalog of potential interactions between the virus and human cells, a system for pooling patient results from 5 countries, and a study of the virus in aerosols. A study points to the impact of Covid-19 on other causes of death and three meta-analyses deliver sobering news about the lack of effective treatment alternatives
- A study of non-coved-19 deaths in England and Wales** shows a increase in weak 14 of 2020, four weeks after the first Covid death\. This are early stage results, but they demonstrate that the public health impact of the disease extends beyond the direct impact of the disease.
- A major collaborative effort** injected all known viral proteins into cll cultures and found protein:protein interactions with 332 human proteins, which are potential targets for 69 existing FDA-approved drugs.
- An unprecedented collaboration among 96 hospitals in five countries** to coordinate medical records creates a data set that can be used to study the clinical course of almost 30,000 Covid-19 patients.
- A new study of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols** Finds that the virus may remain infective for far longer than previously believed, up to 16 hours.
- A cohort of 56 patients continued to shed the SARS-CoV-2 virus for up to five weeks following their first positive test.
- Meta-analyses of Chloroquine** antibiotics in children** and antivirals in children** find little evidence of any efficacy in the treatment of Covid-19.
