Infectious Misinformation It typically takes five months for a paper to go from manuscript to publication. The entire pandemic hasn't lasted five months. When you try to rush publication, you wind up with abominations like this paper. Therein lies the challenge of science in COVID time.
Research News
Press releases from the New York City Health Department and the Pediatric Intensive Care Society of the UK document the occurrence of Kawasaki syndrome, a severe, multi-system inflammatory disease, in children who were found to either have the virus or antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 without the typical symptoms of COVID-19. This raises more concerns about the range of potential effects of the virus.
A search of public access structure activity data catalogues the potential for existing drugs to treat COVID-19.
A study of hospitalized COVID-19 patients documents the high frequency of liver damage in COVID-19 patients and its close association with mortality. The authors suggest liver function tests, particularly AST, are an important clinical marker to follow in these cases.
