Train 'n Mask
Adi Gaskell has an interesting post on bias removal. One thought is that removing the potentially offending data in its entirety. "Research from Yale proposes a better solution that the researchers believe is sensitive to gender, race, and so on. The approach ensures that sensitive data is included when training algorithms, but then masked when actually being used. They believe the approach maintains the accuracy of the system while reducing the discrimination in it." To learn more, read more at Real KM: How to remove biases from algorithms

Second-hand tech
We've all probably bough that refurbished phone or switch where we were in a pinch or just weren't quite ready to get rid of the whole lot of aged hardware. In the days of actual software purchases that was also done in a limited fashion. But what about buying used software subscriptions? As this post details, it is a real thing. Microsoft Office 365 costs increases are what makes this current news. As my grandfather used to say, "The devil's in the details." I say, buyer beware and do a lot of reading! Be sure to read more at Silicon UK: Are used software licences an alternative to buying new ones?

A great question!
This post caught my attention as it is an issue that has not yet been raised to me in my firm. The question is a great one. Technically, of course, you CAN record a deposition using Zoom. Perhaps the better question is, Should you? While I might claim a passing familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (Rule 28 and Rule 30) that deal with video recording a deposition, it is a pretty far pass. And while the advice, "The most straightforward alternative would be to retain a certified videographer to administer and certify the video recording to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Rules," might be self serving and stray into an ad for the authors at Steno, it is not bad advice depending on your familiarity with the rules. The author concludes, "Though the pandemic will hopefully subside, judges believe remote depositions are here to stay. There may be more rules for using videoconferencing software in the foreseeable future." I agree. Read more at JD Supra: Can I Use Zoom to Record a Deposition?

They do a feature comparison, a pros and cons list, discuss the critical components of Microsoft Teams and Office 365 integration, mobile and remote access, and one of the biggest considerations, true cloud vs hosted cloud. There are more DMS choices today then ever before. Be informed and get your copy of the whitepaper at epona: WHITEPAPER - NetDocuments VS. Worldox Vs. Epona DMS/Microsoft 365
